I am having a wired connection issue on my HP pavilion dv6 laptop.
Kubuntu 10.04, KDE4.7.1, Linux kernel 3.0.2 It started after I did an update on Friday last week. First the wired connection went drastically slower than before (I don't have any comparison numbers). Then when I would boot up in the morning ethernet wouldn't connect at all, so I had to delete eth0 from the network manager, reboot and add a new wired connection to network manager. After a reboot this was gone again, so I had to go through the process again. Very Boring and I have never seen this before. I tried these commands and get this:
my /network/interfaces file says:
Wireless on both Kubuntu and windows and wired on my windows partition work fine. Could this be a buggy KDE network manager? |

You should restart network-manager service, not network. Also, when using Network Manager - don't bother with interfaces configuration file, NM doesn't use that at all. Try looking into NM logs for details, it spits alot of information, maybe you'll find useful information about your problem.

Thanks for the input.
I quoted your response on the kubuntu forums. I actually solved it by upgrading to Oneric (11.10) and everything is great now. Cheers |

Sorry for the delay. Anyway I can't find the link anymore.
The problem was gone until I upgraded my 10.11 to 4.7.2 over the weekend. Now it is back with a vengeance. This seems to be a 4.7.2 issue on my machine. Whenever I unhook my laptop from the wired connection to go portable and then hook it up again after a day working with it, I have to delete the wired connection from nm, then make a new one, reboot, unplug my cable modem and refresh that during boot. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does work the connection is excruciatingly slow. The hotspot over my android phone is faster. Where do I find the nm logs? Not that I could actually do anything with that info Anyone with an idea? Edit: I found the link: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3118759.0 I was looking under oneric, but it was under natty. It has been a long day |

I cannot find a NetworkManager log. I checked in /var/log but couldn't see it.
I did do two things and they seem to have made adifference.. 1) I updated my vmplayer to the last uopdate on the kernel 2) I activated vm services in the bios. It is working now but I am Holding my breath . |

Usually NM's log messages goes to /var/log/NetworkManager.log, /var/log/messages or /var/log/daemong.log depending on which distribution you use. I do not know which one Kubuntu uses.
Is vmplayer related to vmware?
