doesn´t Jockey install it?
Jockey is this small program which installs proprietary drivers in (K)Ubuntu systems. You can find it in the system part of the KDE startmenu and it most likely is named "additional hardware drivers" or similar. But google tells me that in the new Kernel 3.0 this wireless card does not work, even after you installed the driver via Jockey. So you need to uninstall all the old kernelmodules:
and install the firmware:

Worked perfectly. I used to have ubuntu with gnome 3.X and it worked fine using the ndiswrapper and utility, I installed kde over that and my wireless setting carried over and everything was great.
I then installed kubuntu standalone on my desktop(which is ethernet only) and I loved kubuntu even more. Once I got comfortable in this awesome enviroment I decided I would fresh install kubuntu 11.1 on the laptop. Not using Ubuntu first. I tried all means possible for two straight days....wasted my whole weekend. I found somewhere on the net I needed to have the ethernet connected when I fresh install......That didn't work so I was desperate for a solution. Yours worked first shot. After three clean installs I thank you for the input above and I recommend this solution for all dell users wth this device. My rig is a Dell inspiron E1505 heres what I now get when I type: sudo lshw -C network -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *-network description: Network controller product: BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:0b:00.0 version: 01 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: driver=b43-pci-bridge latency=0 resources: irq:16 memory:efdfc000-efdfffff *-network description: Ethernet interface product: BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 logical name: eth1 version: 02 serial: 00:15:c5:b9:bd:9b size: 10Mbit/s capacity: 100Mbit/s width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list ethernet physical mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=b44 driverversion=2.0 duplex=half latency=64 link=no multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=10Mbit/s resources: irq:17 memory:ef9fe000-ef9fffff *-network description: Wireless interface physical id: 2 logical name: wlan0 serial: 00:18:f3:6c:08:4c capabilities: ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=b43 driverversion=3.0.0-13-generic firmware=508.1084 ip=10.0.0.4 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bg ---------------------------------- Before My Wlan had no logical name....
