I am using Konqueror 3.5.4-20.el5.centos CentOS (Using KDE 3.5.4-22.el5.centos Red Hat)
Our environment uses NFS mounted volumes with automounter. I experience the following problem: Given: An NFS volume /labo/users containing all the home directories of the users. An NFS volume /labo/data containing measurement result files and directories. In this environment a frequently executed job is copying files between a users home directory and a data directory. We encourage our users to perform this job with Konqueror. The problem is that Konqueror freezes for more than a minute when you switch from one volume to another. An example: Suppose user Fred wants’ to copy the file /labo/data/simulate/demo.txt to his home directory /labo/users/fred/demo.txt To do this, Fred starts up Konqueror in his home directory and splits the Konqueror window into two windows. He selects the second window and starts typing into the Location field. When he types: /labo/data/ <Enter> because he doesn’t remember the correct path, Konqueror will lock up for at least one minute before it fills the window with the content of the data directory. We notice this behavior on all our NFS mount points. In the above case once you have the content of the mounted directory /labo/data/ everything goes back to normal and you can freely move around into the volume. My question: Is this a known problem and more important is there a fix for this behavior? |

Just so you don't feel alone
I have had some odd problems with Dolphin and nfs / automounter setups I wonder if Dolphin inherits a lot of code from Konqueror ? My problem is Dolphin can be really slow and sometimes ( apparently randomly ) won't let you right click and 'create new' in folder you have permissions for. I tried Krusader and that works fine and so does nautilus Since I don't really want Gnome I'll stick with Krusader I would be interested if using Krusader solves your problem ( even maybe only as a test ) since I was beginning to wonder about my nfs setup as Dolphin seemed so slow. I'm afraid dolphin isn't available on this version of centos. So I can't test if dolphin has the same problem.
Krusader isn't installed on our systems so I don't know how it handles the problem. But nautilus 2.16.2 is available and it doesn't have the problem but on the other hand it also hasn't the possibilities of konqueror. |
