Hello
I have an internal wireless (wlan0) card plus a wifi usb dongle (wlan1)
When the dongle is connected I want the internal card to be shutdown (i.e not only "Not connected" but that she does not emit any radio signal at all)

So i typed :
Code: Select all
sudo iwconfig wlan0 TXpower off

The result is the following (which might let think that it actually worked)
Code: Select all
wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=off
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

wlan1     IEEE 802.11bg  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

But unfortunately, the "Enable Wireles" tickbox in Network manager is also unticked. Hence I can't get to the internet.
Re-ticking the "Enable Wireles" cause wlan0 to start again.

Any idea to avoid this ?
Unfortunately I can't give you the version of the network manager since it is easier to find plans of an atomic bomb on the internet than to find whick **** name I should enter before --versoin...
Code: Select all
uname -a
Linux netbook 3.0.0-15-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 20 15:59:53 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

This is probably a limitation in NetworkManager itself. You can choose which MAC address to use and which interface to use for connections, but not to bring it down. However, since NetworkManager can execute scripts when connecting, perhaps you can use that facility. Try to consult the NetworkManager documentation (http://projects.gnome.org/NetworkManager).
