I'm using kubuntu 11.10 on a sony vaio laptop with a NVIDIA Geforce 410M, 295.20 (and 295.33) graphic drivers and vdpau on sm player 0.7.1. i get tearing in .avi files but not in HD mkv's. Sync to VBlack is activated in nvidia settings and from system preferences-desktop effects. any solution?
here's smplayer's config file: # Write your default config options here! [vo.vdpau] vc=ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffh264vdpau, thnx |

if you use xv instead of vdpau for video does it still tear?
is your refresh rate correct? |

i believe my refresh rate is correct, it's set to auto |

do other video players produce tearing (VLC, Kaffeine - these use diffent backends whereas UmPlayer would also use mPlayer)

if you turn off desktop effects (alt+shift+F12)?
if you turn deinterlacing on (found post suggesting Linear Blend as a fix for tearing) is this all avi files or just some? |

unfortunately the only solution was to disable desktop effects to remove tearing, even on kubuntu 12.04 with 295.49 drivers
