Video Playback in Kubuntu 12.04

Thu Mar 29, 2012 6:28 pm
Hi all,

yesterday I decided to give 12.04 a try.
One surprise: the Dist-upgrade from 11.10 went without errors, this never worked for me.
Mostly all is working fine, except for Video Playback in Bangarang, only a black screen. Using VLC I see a stuttering video.
Was anybody as curious as me and installed 12.04 already with the same problem?

Which phonon-backend do you use? I suggest using the phonon-backend-vlc, although the phonon-backend-gstreamer should work as well if you have the ubuntu-restricted-extras package installed.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

finally I figured out, that if I start bangarang by clicking on a video file, the bangarang does not actually switch to play mode and the vid is paused. After starting play again, the video is played correctly.

My guess: The first try of bangarang to play the video fails and so it is paused (I think to see a short flickering), second try works.
But I have no idea how to debug this problem.

When I start from konsole:
user@user-ThinkPad-X220:~$ bangarang
QObject: Cannot create children for a parent that is in a different thread.
(Parent is Nepomuk::ResourceManager(0x9eec5c0), parent's thread is QThread(0x9b857e0), current thread is MusicListEngine(0xa2ec728)

Unfortunately, the debugging symbols for bangarang (I guess it is the package "kde-baseapps-dbg") is not installable due to a missing dependency at the moment.
And: I am using phonon-gstreamer backend, as it is the standard
