If audex is included in the Kubuntu repos, I would recommend that!

If you're OK with using a terminal-based tool, I would highly recommend trying out abcde.

You maybe don't have the required libs installed for mp3 encoding. Try installing liblame and see if it works then.

Did you try KAudioCreator?

Nope in my distro i dont find kaudiocreator in adept..I would prefer getting k3b working.. Ripping to ogg is not a problem but ripping to mp3 seems impossible..
Kubuntu 8.10

The fact that ripping to ogg works fine means that you have not installed MP3 support. try playing a MP3 file to test this out. If you have not installed MP3 support explicitly you will need to follow distribution specific instructions to install MP3 support ( such instructions can usually be found on your distributions forum )

In K3B, open settings, navigate to the Plugins tab. you should under the encoding section have at least the "K3b Lame Mp3 encoder"
If you do not then you will need to install the k3b-codecs package ( at least under openSuSE you do ) I am assuming you are using the KDE 3 version of K3B.

tried ripping the terminal way using lame worked like a charm so k3b must be giving lame the errors...
k3b version: 1.0.5

The same Problem I have. lame standalone works fine, but in K3B it doesn't work. When I try with dolphin lame works (See this with ps -ef | grep lame), but the outputfile is only noise .. I get crazy about this ripping MP3 thing. With OGG all things works fine
I use Kubuntu intrepid |

I use openSuSE 11.0, and it works for me ( the audiocd kioslave ripping MP3 files ). I would say this is a... Kubuntu specific bug. A workaround would be to use the audiocd KIO slave to rip as an OGG then re-encode them as MP3 using ffmpeg.

Yes seems to be kubuntu thats the error now when we are two users with the same problem.. as for workarounds you can also use k3b to ogg and so on.. But i dont like workarounds it should simply work... Just as for example cdex for windows.. lucky me still hasent kicked out windows yet when i want things to work i boot to windows..

You can try "grip" it is a gtk application but works quite well for cd ripping. (but the gui the settings are somewhat complex.)
