Neither are working on ANY distribution of Linux I've tried. I have tried 8 different versions with no results!!

I use VLC for dvd's, though sMplayer should work - you'll need libdvdcss installed, there should be a tutorial for your distro explaining how to. XBMC should also play them and may have libdvdcss in it's package
