depending on what you are streaming to there is PLEX http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Players

I want to stream my desktop, is there a way to do that?

VLC has a noticeable delay. I think using VNC would be a better option.

When I use vncserver and vncviewer, I see a new session opposed to what is happening on my desktop right now. How do I use vncserver to show the current desktop?

Also in KDE 4.8.4, when using TightVNC Server version 1.3.9 and vncviewer the lower part of the screen is not shown.
