Hi,
I'm having trouble with k3b who continually gives the message "media not present". There is media present though. I have put multiple blank DVDs in the device but k3b doesn't see them. I'm attempting a "new video DVD" and have dragged the files into their locations. When I poke burn I get a dialogue that claims "no media present". I have checked out the latest k3b from the git repository and built it successfully. Any/all help/hints/tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dumb question maybe, but: is the CD drive mounted automatically when an already written CD is inserted? Else you might have to check your settings in /etc/fstab
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Also, which version of KDE are you using? Depending on the version, either HAL or UDisks must be present and running on your system for KDE to be aware of the optical drive, and capable of detecting media in it.

Thanks for your responses.
Apparently this system can no longer recognize that there is media in the drive. The hardware does see the drive though, AND, I have booted recently from this device, so It's possible that it's a KDE problem. My KDE is at 4.8.5, the latest from Fedora Core 16 x86_64. The k3b from the distribution started failing so I went to the source code and built k3b myself. This resulted in the same symptoms. # psg hal hal F S UID PID PPID CLS PRI ADDR SZ WCHAN STIME TTY TIME CMD psg udisk udisk F S UID PID PPID CLS PRI ADDR SZ WCHAN STIME TTY TIME CMD 4 S root 17351 1 TS 19 - 32493 poll_s Jul18 ? 00:00:11 /usr/libexec/udisks-daemon --no-debug 1 S root 17363 17351 TS 19 - 11886 poll_s Jul18 ? 00:00:00 udisks-daemon: not polling any devices |

Does the output of the following command mention that media is present in the drive?

Check your total file size versus the available space on the media. I tried to burn an ISO image to a CD-r and was getting the same message. I used 'Device -> Media Info' from the K3B menu to see what it said the media space was. The CD-r was recognized and listed at 650.1MB while the ISO I was trying to burn was listed at 679.3MB. Go figure, it was an older CD-r I had laying around. Put in a newer 700MB CD-r and K3B was happy to offer to burn it. Image that, a CD/DVD burn app that doesn't even warn you that you don't have enough space on the currently inserted media... Thankfully, we have KCalc...
