Hi,
I have a usb soundcard (rega dac) that will plug into the sound system and outputs digital audio to the spdif port (optical). When i try the CM6331 chip device the "USB2.0 High-speed True HD Audio analogue stereo" module appears to be used, but the only output appears to be analogue rather than digital audio. The device has no analogue outputs. There is no way I can get light from the spdif port. The device works OK with MS xp and win7. Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers. m. |

Have you tried using a different Phonon backend, such as VLC instead of GStreamer to see if this has an impact?
Also, try opening System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon > Audio Hardware Setup, and select the CM6331 card, then see if another profile can be selected for it.

Hi,
I tried the vlc backend, nothing. I tried the phonon configuration through the multimedia settings. usb 2.0 high-speed true HD Audio card appears but only with analogue duplex, analogue input and analogue input as profiles. None of thee settings works. I have used "audio hardware setup" panel to try to get things going, and nothing. I renamed home/*****/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc which enabled all the profiles, but none of the iec or similar profiles worked. I've tried using a powered usb hub, but no success. I've tried another kubuntu computer with LMS, but no success. It's like the usb interface is recognising the new card, but is unable to control the iec output. The iec output does work with standard usb with my Rega DAC ?? (Card cardName=USB Audio CODEC (USB Audio)) My other cards are hdmi on board and a pci card. The phonondevicesrc cards are [AudioDevice_/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1:1.0/sound/card2/pcmC2D0p:playback] cardName=USB2.0 High-Speed True HD Audio (USB Audio) deleted=false deviceNumber=0 hotpluggable=true iconName=audio-card index=-162 initialPreference=36 isAdvanced=false [AudioDevice_/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:04:00.1/sound/card0/pcmC0D3p:playback] cardName=HDA NVidia (HDMI 0) #3 deleted=true deviceNumber=3 hotpluggable=false iconName=audio-card index=-31 initialPreference=33 isAdvanced=true [AudioDevice_/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.0/0000:03:02.0/sound/card0/pcmC0D0c:capture] cardName=C-Media CMI8768 (C-Media PCI DAC/ADC) deleted=false deviceNumber=0 hotpluggable=false iconName=audio-card index=-16 initialPreference=36 isAdvanced=false There are several versions of the above for recording etc and other cards I've used some time ago.....619 lines of them. |

Does the command "aplay -l" list the digital output of your sound card?

Are you able to use the "aplay" command to attempt to play audio through the IEC958 output?
I'm not sure why Phonon is not displaying the correct devices at the moment.

I'm not sure how I can specify the iec output if there is no card identification or that output. have you some suggested code I can try? |

I have run an alsa info script.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wji7x0zs117tpyr/tMDmO2ghOR Horrendous, but true. You helped me with installing the cmedia pci card 2 years ago. The shame is almost to much to bear. My audio is so much better than it was back then, but still I am trying new things. It has been worth the effort! |

I removed the pci card and now phonon configuration gives some iec958 profiles.
However when I try to change the audio hardware setup I can't save either the usb2.0 card nor the specifi profile. It returns to high definition audio controller which will be the hdmi nvidia graphics card. The other thing I've noticed is that the spdif transmitter comes on briefly during the boot process, but goes out, and remains out. The cmi pci card has the led on all the time the computer is running. The Cyrus streamer I'm using detects the output from the pci card whether the card is being used or not. The sampling frequency changes as expected with 48/96 kHz files. |

Hmm, if that is the case you could be running into a bug in the Phonon control panel. As "pavucontrol" is changing the same settings, could you try changing the audio profile there instead? (You may need to install it - it is a Gtk application).
