I'm guessing that I need to install some extra software.
Neither scanlite nor office draw give an option to scan to pdf.
Any ideas?

For KDE applications you should be able to use the "Print" function. There should be a pseudo printer called "Print to file (PDF)".
Since Skanlite doesn't support printing the scanned picture directly, you would have to save it to a picture file first and then open it with e.g. Okular or Gwenview.

And what program do you mean with "office draw"?
If it is OpenOffice/LibreOffice Draw, there should be an "Export to PDF" button in the toolbar (that function is also available in the "File" menu).
