Hey folks, first time in the KDE forums since switching from Gnome in the last week or so. I like it a lot.
My problem is when trying to open videos files, the player will play audio and then complain about missing codec. Using the gui to find the codec won't result in anything. I've experienced this with Dragon player, embedded and Amarok( its awesome that they supposedly can play them). I have installed most of the needed gstreamer packages, although they may only be rule for gnome( idk):
Also installed supposed thumbnailers, and I think these work, thumbs appear on videos, but preview won't. My "Audio and Video settings" only show options for Audio playback, Audio and video Recording, so I think something is missing here. Thanks, I know this may be silly thing to solve, but I'm new to KDE and not everything seems trivial. |

You need the plugins for gstreamer 0.10.x, not those for 1.0, s Phonon currently is not completely ported to the 1.x versions yet.
These are the packages I have installed here:
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Oh many thank many thanks, I actually had the 0.10 packages installed as recommendations, but missing were the ffmpeg and fluendo ones. It now plays as supposed, even in preview. I'm finding KDE to be the awesomest of desktops! |
