Well, I try this in English, I hope you get my point
I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 When I watch a movie with vlc (videolan) and I want to lower the volume, I can simply press a hotkey on my keyboard and I get an OSD with some kind of progress bar and the volume goes down. Same for Amarok 1.4 BUT when I watch a movie with Dragon Player, which uses Phonon, my hotkeys are totally ignored. The only way to lower the volume is to use the mouse and change the volume bar in the player. Same goes for Amarok 2.0 (Beta3) Well I don't want to use Dragon Player now or in future but I'm looking forward to Amarok2. Am I forced to use two different volume controls for programs with Phonon support and Programs without? At the moment this really sucks! |

Phonon just plays the media files, it does not have anything to do with the hotkeys. Check in the applications concerned that their shortcuts are configured how you would like them. Note that the applications may not have OSD's at the moment.
However, you could just maximise the volume in all applications and use the shortcuts provided by KMix. First set the channel you want to be master ( right click Kmix icon > Select Master Channel.. ) then open the mixer Settings > Configure Shortcuts. look for "Increase Volume.." and "Decrease Volume.." these will alter the volume of your master channel. this is the approach I use.

Well that got me one step further. My "volume up/down" hotkeys are set for PCM and it seems that PCM is ignoredy by Phonon. Unfortunately I have no idea how to change the "Main Channel" to Master instead of PCM. I changed it in KMix but the hotkeys still trigger PCM. EDIT: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubun ... 57888.html Well it seems that I am not the only one with this kind of problem!
