Ksnapshot does not suggest filename

Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:37 pm
Is this a bug? In KDE3, ksnapshot will automatically suggest a filename for each screenshot I take. When I name the first picture 'snap1.png' the second picture will be named 'snap2.png' and when I save it, the name will already be filled out in the name field.

In KDE4, I can see that the window in which I work holds the working title of the following filename, but there is no 'Save' button, only 'Save as'. And clicking on 'Save as' comes up with a dialog with an empty filename.

Using KDE4 on Arch. Anyone else experience this?

Same for me with kubuntu interpid 4.1.3. Have you already looked for a bug report?

Well, yes and no. I googled around some and did not find a meaningful hit. But I'll do some more digging. Thanks.

EDIT.

Found it on bugs.kde.org: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=166826

The issue with the autoincremented filename in the save dialog is fixed in trunk now. Tomorrow I will ask the maintainer, whether this should be backported to KDE 4.1

Cheers, m

That .cpp is a C++ source file, which is human readable and editable source code for a small section of KSnapshot. if you are up to compiling applications, then you should be able to checkout the entire of KSnapshot from SVN.

If you are uncomfortable with compiling applications from SVN, then I would recommend waiting for 4.2, or for the developer to backport the fix to 4.1, and for another bug fix release of 4.1.

Oh, good that you remember me to backport. @Miroku: If the patch will be committed to the current brach, it could be fixed for KDE 4.1.4

What is your distribution. You can try that. (I have not tried it by myself, so hopefully there are no errros). Be sure to install the devel packages of KDE 4.1.x

Code: Select all
svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/branches/KDE/4.1/kdegraphics
mkdir kdegraphics-build
cd kdegraphics-build
cmake ../kdegraphics
cd ksnapshot
make
sudo make install

You can give this a try. If you have any problems, please post them here.

Cheers, m

Yeah, this should work as well for gnome. But be sure to install the kde4 devel packages. You already must have installed kdebase-something and kdelibs to start ksnapshot.
