SoundKonverter produces unusual bitrate metadata

Hi there,

To test out SoundKonverter's ability to change the bitrate of audio files, I converted a whole album from 300 Kbps to 128 Kbps. I was interested to note that the metadata in the resultant audio files, according to ExifData, contained e.g.:

Lame Bitrate : 128 kbps
Audio Bitrate : 119 kbps

In fact, the Audio Bitrate value for the tracks in the album varies from 112 kbps to 123 kbps.

Does anybody know the reason for this?

do have it set for average bitrate instead of constant?

Thanks for your reply google01103.

I can't find a way of setting average bitrate in SoundKonverter. As it is, the resultant bitrates are all less than 128 Kbps so there appears to be no averaging going on. In addition, the same results are obtained when a single audio file is converted rather than an entire album.

As it is, I've just noticed a checkbox in SoundKonverter marked "cbr" and checking this results in a solid 128 Kbps across the board, so success! It doesn't explain why unchecking this option produces variable bitrates all less than the target bitrate, but it's nice to be able to obtain what I originally intended.

cbr = constant bit rate
