I'm very new to Linux. So far so good, but i'm trying to find a basic setting.

Even tho my volume control is set to the lowest. I still have mail notification sound / facebook notification sound.

Is there a setting i'm missing ?

System notification sound (the bell) for non-KDE applications doesn't go through the KDE volume control, you might want to disable the bell in the System Settings.
