A Music Player for KDE

Sun May 15, 2016 4:37 pm
We began to design a Music Player with the VDG here.

Now I've worked on the implementation. This thread is about getting forward, help on some decisions....

why not use QtAV instead of libVLC and QMediaPlayer? you don't like TagLib so much?

I don't know QtAv. I don't dislike Taglib but if I must use another library that does the same....

What is better in QtAv?

i guess the same what made QMediaPlayer better for you than libVLC. however QtAV uses FFMPEG and hence supports lots of containers and codecs unlike QMediaPlayer.

We're six months out from the start of this thread, and there's not yet a KF5 release for Amarok. I have not seen any updates on this new player here or on Planet. Can someone give a state of the union update on music players for Plasma 5?

Thanks for the update, Rog! :)

Looking forward to trying it out in KDE Neon when it's a little more baked.

Please allow the use of albumartist instead of artist as a grouping/category. It drives me crazy when a player cannot do that or handles it incorrectly.

Seconded, Album Artist makes Music Library Management so much more bearable
