Oops, my mistake. It should have read
Code: Select all
ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom

this got dragon player & kaffine 0.9-pre-alpha (aka kde4-kaffeine) playing audio cds! thats two down, more to go...

amarok 1.94 is apparently not able to directly play audio cds in the way that dragon player & kaffeine 0.9 are able to (because of phonon perhaps???)

however, audacious still refuses to recognize audio cds unless i launch it manually with
Code: Select all
audacious cdda://

the new device notifier works fine with removable media but not with audio cds. also, kdf (kdiskfree) does not show my optical disc drives either. (possibly cuz they aren't listen in fstab???)

thoughts?...

All 3 ( Amarok 1.94, Dragon Player, Kaffeine 0.9 alpha ) use Phonon. It is more than likely that support for Audio CD's has not been implemented in Amarok 2 yet, probably being pushed back to Amarok 2.1 or later, because the audiocd:/ KIO Slave can be used as a work around.

Regarding Audacious, I haven't a clue. I can only suggest looking in the preferences, particularly at the plugin preferences, perhaps something needs to be set. Given that supplying the URI works, the plugin must clearly be installed.

The reason the Device Notifier does not work is because Audio CD's are accessed RAW be applications that handle them. They are never mounted and I do not even know if HAL even notices them, which if it doesn't is the reason behind it, because the device notifier uses Solid, which uses HAL on Linux.

yeah, i'm aware of all of that except i wasn't sure if amarok2 had phonon support yet.

as far as amarok2 is concerned, it seems like audio cd support would be a HUGE lost feature... i do not see it listed here:
