I've got a headset with speaker and microphone but kubuntu is only detecting the speaker and using the laptop's inbuilt microphone instead of the one I have in my headset.
It works fine on windows. When I click the speaker in the taskbar, it only shows "microphone" (which I assume is the laptop's inbuilt one) and doesn't have any other option. I have installed `pavucontrol` and it also shows only "Microphone" in the input devices ports. I tried the splitter which came with the headset and plugged the mic wire and kubuntu still falsely detects it as speaker ("headphone") now unable to play any sound of course. `arecord -l` shows this with or without headset or microphone: **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC255 Analog [ALC255 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I would appreciate if I can get any help fixing this. |

I followed [this](https://superuser.com/a/1423564/402746) answer and added `options snd-hda-intel model=alc255-asus` to `/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf` and it worked!
