I've got a clean Kubuntu 8.10 installation and I've upgraded to Amarok2.
Every time it starts up, it pops up a message saying: "Phonon The audio playback device VIA 8237 with ALC655 (VIA 8237) does not work. Falling back to SBLive! Platinum (rev. Standard PCM Playback." Never having heard of the VIA device (I suppose it might be the on-board soundcard that I've disabled so my SBLive card works) I've got no idea why it's even trying to use it (nothing else does) but it seems it would tidy things up if I could work out how to configure Amarok just to go straight for the proper soundcard. Is this one of the many configuration options that KDE4 still hasn't got, or is there something hidden somewhere I can fix it?

In System Settings > Sound you can set the preferred device for each type of sound app. Maybe you need to configure the type 'Music' and defer the Via chip.

Thanks. That was it. A setting I hadn't spotted. Though I've no idea why it should automatically choose something that's not even usable... |
