I'm a really big fan of KDE4, and I understand that some features are missing.
So this thread is not that much about on categorical rant but more questions about he future, but it's also some rant. So let's start at biggest problem which in my fathers eyes discredited the whole KDE and Linux. Playing Audio CDs: For some reason KDE4 auto-mounts audio CDs without any notice. So when I tried to play a CD on my Kubuntu nothing seemingly happened. And after I realised that it has auto-mount there was a problem of playing it. After some time I realized that Dragon player plays audio CDs. But there is also an KsCD which if I understand correctly is the default CD player of KDE4. But this KsCD is for me "unusable" it has some weird way of playing CDs. For unknown reason the track 1 is not the track 1 on CD but rather the previously played track. But that was some time ago, so things might have changed in this time. And now we come to the next thing that I'll probably never understand. Why Amarok dosen't plays CDs and why it dosen't rip music instead of K3B?? (I can't remember did Amarok played CDs in KDE3? I have the feeling that it didn't) I would personally rather see something like windows media player (one app for all) oppose to current mess in KDE where default music player dosen't plays CDs and default movie player does. To end with a bit of hardware problem (KDE related), but the only app that recognizes my Pioneer DVD-107 (I know old stuff) is K3B. If I want to play a CD from it I can't... I'm completely sure that this things will be sorted in KDE4.5, but I would prefer the sooner the better.

You can instruct Amarok to use either cdda:/ or audiocd:/ to play CD's.
audiocd:/ is a KIO slave, and can be browsed through Konqui. Also allows files to be easily ripped to the hard drive. cdda:/ is an Xine URL and can be used to play audio CD's at least in Amarok 1.x. Also Audio CD's cannot be "mounted" they can only be read as RAW data. I do not believe Audio CD's currently show in the Device Notifier currently, probably because of this. I have never used KsCD, only ever Dragon player through the audiocd:/ KIO slave ( which works perfectly, all apps should use it to play audio CD's )

Thanks I'll try that...[hr]
OK I tried, it works in konqueror, but it dosen't work in Amarok. When I write audiocd:/ it says it can't be listed. I get the same thing with cdda. But I have noticed that the 1,4 version does play the CDs so it's OK... I'm using Amarok-Nightly[hr] And I also noticed that my Amarok 2 uses a lot of CPU and I remeber that this was the problem that I have encountered before (even in 1.4 version) how come that it uses so much???

For the audiocd:/ Use case you will need to specify the full path that would normally have been present had you opened it from your Hard Drive.
In the case of cdda:/ you will need to append the track number after it ( cdda:/1 for instance )

So I suppose that audocd:/ would look something like this: audiocd:/media/CD0/ (Album Artitst/Album name/track)?
Can I add the whole CD with cdda something like: cdda:/1,2,3,4...?

For audiocd:/ - I think so, you can browse it in Konqueror to find out the full correct path.
for cdda:/ - I believe Xine only supports having one track at a time. You could add in multiple tracks however ( this is how Amarok 1.x works )
