I've been a GNOME user for the past 4 years and have made the switch to KDE 4.2 but I am running into some issues. Primarily, I can't find any good music/media managers that work well. I absolutely love Banshee but for some reason it will not work in KDE 4.x, the UI just freezes up and it crashes. I've tried real hard to use Juk but honestly it almost never works right for me, so I gave up on that. I also gave Amarok a try but I cant get used to the way the UI works and find it almost impossible to use. So does anyone have any suggestions for media managers that work well under KDE 4 or if anyone has been able to get Banshee to work, that would be beneficial.
Thanks! |

I also need really good support for selecting/utilizing alternate audio output devices. Because I have a USB DAC and headphone amp to run my studio headphones which I use to listen to music and Banshee handled that really well on GNOME. I forgot about songbird, gunna give that a try again since I havent used it since the early betas.

Any KDE 4 application will have good support for Alternate Audio Output devices thanks to the Phonon Framework. It can be configured appropriately in System Settings > Multimedia.

Right now I'm using audacious (the refugee skin fit with oxygen...): it is really stable, full featured and reproduce everything.
I enabled de "status icon" to control it from the system tray. To organize the playlists, I put them in a folder and then added near the system tray a "quick access" plasmoid pointing to that folder: I just need to open the quick access, click on the playlist I want and the music starts... Ah! I also enabled the OSD display and the status icon gives info about the current track (cover included) when the pointer is over it. I don't need anything else

If you are running debian unstable and you are having issues with banshee crashing when you play a file, then try the version in experimental, that worked for me. You could also compile banshee from source

- no support for various artist albums - no cover art for flac files --> songbird = no go
