I am looking out for a KDE application that can record (from Mic, great if it can record from System/Soundcard as well). I dont find any default recording application in my KUbuntu 8.10 install (Upgraded to 4.2)

At this time the KDE Multimedia module does not provide a sound recording application. There is no recording application present in KDE Extragear Multimedia either at this time.

I could not locate any in KDE Playground either. This is perhaps because Phonon currently lacks / only recently gained input device support.

I'd suggest going outside KDE apps for this and using Audacity, which is an excellent application for doing just about everything you could wish to do with audio.
