There is. Under every new thread you have some options, e.g. "open a poll". But let me do it for you.

Gstreamer because Xine doesn't work well with 5.1 sound.

Has to be Xine. GStreamer is too quiet and less configurable.

The GStreamer phonon backend is way too buggy and causes all kinds of crashes.

No contest really, since Xine is the only one that, as far as I'm (or rather, my computer) concerned, works. The gstreamer backend is WAY too buggy.

hi,
i want to use the phonon module of qt4.5, that is in qt creator. gstreamer and its supporting tools are required for using phonon. i think gstreamer acts as backend for phonon module in qt. i want to download and install gstreamer and its supporting packages that are necessary for phonon module in my fedora 8 system. i can not use yum install. Please tel me the links where i can dowload the packages and then the procedure to install and integrate with phonon module in qt. |

Mplayer backend is the best for me.

I was using Xine until... just now. Yesterday there was an mp3 file Xine wouldn't play, but everything else did. Today I experienced the same thing with a FLAC file.
That was enough. I switched to gstreamer and the problems I've had with it in the past (and that others have mentioned) seem to be gone. Interesting. I was actually surprised how much louder gstreamer was when I switched. |

Yeah what's happening with xine these days? I've had to switch to gstreamer like the previous poster just to get sound in KDE.
I recently upgraded my laptop (FC12) to KDE 4.3.4 and now none of my KDE apps (like Amarok & Kaffeine) have sound, yet every non-KDE app is fine (such as VLC). I'm using xine-lib-1.1.16.3-5 Anyone else noticed these problems with their KDE audio? I don't particularly want to have to drop pulseaudio totally as I also use Gnome... |

Upstream Xine is unfortunately suffering a large lack of developer power at the moment ( I think only one developer remains ) which is resulting in things starting to break.
