The sudo reload problem is likely related to permissions, please ensure you have the correct permissions to access the audio devices ( usually being a member of the 'audio' or 'plugdev' groups is sufficient )

Neither group exists. Just pulse, pulse-access and pulse-rt for apparent sound-related groups. I'm set for permissions to 'use audio devices'.

What is the output of this command:
Also, ensure Pulseaudio isn't installed ( I know I asked before, Jaunty / Updates may have 'helpfully' reinstalled it )

Update included it, but I removed it. |

And the output of "id" please. Was the above with a sudo reload or a normal user reload?

Whoops. That was from a working boot. Here's a stuttering boot:

Sorry, but I don't have any ideas since it seems to be system wide, and affects everything. I would recommend contacting your distribution, since your hardware may require having some quirks enabled for it.

Completely remove Gstreamer and leave only ALSA. Edit the asound.conf in the /etc directory. Your chipset should work fine with sound. I decided this issue in this way.
