I was having the same issues described in:
http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-bin/bugre ... bug=519243
and
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=186813

I found some stuff about KMS (kernel-based mode setting) and started looking at that and so far fixed my corruption.

I had the same issue on a Intel 82Q35 Express.

I for a couple days now haven't had any issues by switching to use UXA and KMS (kernel-based mode setting).
I am not sure which fixed it but I don't have corruption.

To enable UXA I put this in the Device section of xorg.conf:
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"

Then to enable KMS I put this line in /etc/modules:
i915 modeset=1

I haven't had any corruption, suspend and resume works fine, and it seems a bit faster to me.

The downside is that I can't switch to virtual terminals.
If I try it appears to lock the machine. My desktop stays up and the same. The mouse disappears and any activity like blinking cursor or scrolling stops. But if I switch back to VT7 everything comes back.

I guess I can live with no VTs for now without having corruption.

I also should probably mention that this is Debian SID/Experimental using these versions:
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.1-1
libdrm-intel1 2.4.9-1
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.0-1
linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64 2.6.29-3
libgl1-mesa-dri 7.4-2

Disabling ACPI 2.0 in BIOS seems to be a workaround for some of Intel display driver bugs.

I haven't even tried enabling desktop effects. My video issue with intel is simply a definite decline in performance in playing video (avi, flash) with KDE4 over other DEs and WMs (XFCE, fluxbox, fvwm-crystal)

I started out hating KDE4 so much that I knew in my heart I was destined to love it. After much struggles, frustration, installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, reuninstalling, and angry posting that makes me cringe to think about, this may be the final roadblock to me being a happy full-time kde4 user. I was already planning on getting an nVidia card and installing the proprietary driver, but I'm going to give this forum a close reading as soon as I get the chance.

I installed kernel 2.6.30 rc4 from the debian kernel buildserver today and it fixes the switching to VTs.
