I installed Kubuntu 9.04 (MSI laptop. 64) a few days ago. I am not familiar with the system so forgive me if my terminology is poor. My problem is that when I load a music CD I get a notification icon on the task bar from Dolphin. Clicking on it opens the folder but if I then click on a music file ,mplayer (default) opens with a message stating that the required audio code is missing offering to search for the required code but with zero results. The same goes for amorak or any other player that I elect except KMplayer' which does not show the CDrom folder in it's menu. However if I go via the K menu desktop icon and then via media and to cdrom I can click on a file and elect it to play in any media player except KMplayer. Also, I cannot eject the CD via an icon because there isn`t one.Prior to the new 9.04 update everything worked OK with my KDE desktop. Is there anyway of correcting the problem please?

Try installing the "audiocd:/" KIO slave ( it may already be installed ) and trying to play through that. ( browse audiocd:/ select music format and then the desired track )

Thank you for your reply. The audiocd:/" KIO slave is not installed. Synaptic Package Manager tells me that the desktop will be un- installed first. Is this ok? Also I noticed that none of the KDE multimedia-KDE 4 stuff is not installed either. Should I install these too? In all cases, apparently the manager indicates that it will un- install the KDE desktop. Can you guide me on this please. If I place a DVD in drive that is recognised by Dolphin browser , Amorak and all other multi media players.

The audio cd KIO slave is usually installed alongside the media applications.

Thank for the advice bc. I tried but mplayer sound was fuzzy and could not play web vids(youtube etc)I lost the use of kaffeine(my favourite currently)and I still cannot auto place the cd drive icon onto the desk top. I have reversed the process and mplayer and kaffeine work good again. I can access the CD files from their browser menus. That will do for now. Perhaps it is a bug that will be resolved over the coming weeks.
I will leave thread open, unless you think it should be closed,as someone else may have the same problem.
