This person recalls ksnapshot having GIF support on SLED 10, but openSUSE 11.1 does not have it. Is this a feature that was removed from ksnapshot, one that was unique to certain distributions, one that hasn't yet been brought over to the KDE 4 version... or something else?
EDIT: I made a feature request, here it is. Thanks, bcooksley.

SLED 10 used KDE 3 I believe. If the KDE 4 version of KSnapShot does not support GIF you can file a feature request if one does not already exist at bugs.kde.org.

AFAIK most open source softwares does not use GIF by default, due to patent reasons.
So, by default ksnapshot will never include GIF support unless some particular distribution has some agreement with the GIF patent holder and include GIF support in its own distribution. |

There should no longer be patent reasons, as the patent expired in 2003... It's now free to use, apparently? |

GIF is limited to 256 colors anyway.
Do not try this at home, part 1. Second most favorite command after KDE upgrade: # chmod -x /usr/bin/kactivitymanagerd

checked on my opensuse 11.1 box, and both ksnapshot4 and ksnapshot3 don't offer gif as file format.
ksnapshot4 does support more image formats than kde3 though. |
