Hi,

I've a problem which I suspect to be related to KDE 4.2, as it appears both in OpenSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.2 and Fedora 11 KDE, which I have as dual-boot currently, but does NOT appear in the Gnome version of Fedora 11. I might be wrong though.

Here's what I have:

OpenSUE 11.1, KDE 4.2; Fedora 11 KDE; 64 bit
External USB sound card: Creative SB Live! 24 bit
Firefox 3.5 in Fedora, 3.0.11 in OpenSUSE
64bit beta flash plugin (also tried the 32bit flash-plugin from Adobe)

In OpenSUSE, the external sound card is configured as USB audio and set as primary card in Yast2 > Hardware > Sound, and in Multimedia set as the first preference for all audio. In Fedora, the sound card is set as first preference in System settings > Multimedia. The system in both OSes correctly recognizes the USB sound card and shows it as active.

Despite this, I am unable to get the sound come through the USB sound card with any flash content (Youtube etc). Repeated disconnects/reconnects of the USB cable and reloadings of Firefox have sometimes helped but not in the last few days.

Since the USB sound card works fine with local playback of video and audio, this sounds like it's to do with the function of the flash plugins with KDE 4.2. Has someone else run into similar problems (with ext. USB audio) and found a solution?

This is just a general issue with flash, which I find always uses the /dev/dsp device to play sounds. Thus you can simply move the existing one to /dev/dsp2 and move the one you want to /dev/dsp then it will work.

Problem solved, now on Fedora 11 and KDE 4.3: I simply needed to install pavucontrol and there turn off the internal audio of the laptop.
