Hi,
I'm trying to configure KDE in a notebook which uses a LCD 14.1" display with the ideal resolution of 1280x800 (aspect ratio = 16:10). The problem is that KDE (Control Center >> Peripherals >> Monitor&Display >> Hardware) only offers two options of image format (aspect ratio) which are: 4:3 and 16:9, none of these are ideal. The result is that font's quality, for example in menu, are with poor quality. Does anybody knows how to solve this problem? I trying to find a way to set this information manually in some archive, like xorg.conf, but I'm not having success. I did't get success finding internet search mechanisms (google) solutions also. |

If you use an ATI card with the proprietary driver you could try to use amdcccle (just type it into KRunner (Alt+F2)). If you don't use an ATI card, could you post it here, please?

Thanks for reply Jan.
I'm using a Intel GM965. There was a tool called 915resolution that could help, but was discontinued and It doesn't support 965.

You may need to use the "xrandr" utility to set the desired aspect ratio.

I didn't see any parameter in xrandr to set aspect ratio, can you write here to me? I used to try some --fb --fbmm --newmode --addmode, based in gtf output, but didn't cause any impact.

From what I have found, it appears that xrandr determines the aspect ratio automatically and applies it. Does anything change if you use xrandr to switch between two resolutions?

I have an intel 965, with the resolution 1280x800, and I have no trouble with aspect ratios or whatever, and I didn't even try to configure the resolution :-P

bcooksley: only resolutions, without any impact in aspect ratio, like other tools.
sandsmark: maybe your distribution has some tool to better configure this during the instalation. Could you help me posting here the Sections "Device", "Monitor" and "Screen" of your xorg.conf? Maybe It's not related to kde limitated options of 4:3 and 16:9. |

http://pastie.org/623980 Which reminds me I should probably just start using an empty xorg.conf again. |
