Switch sound peripheral from terminal

Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:02 am
Hello,

I watch films on my TV using my PC and would like to enable video and audio output to the TV using a script.
For the video, I run
Code: Select all
xrandr --output DFP2 --auto --left-of DFP1

(my video card is an ATI HD4850)

Is it possible to make Phonon use my "HDA ATI HDMI" device using a bash command ?
Thanks.

If you're using a Phonon player to play video, it should be pretty simple using the DBUS interface (to explore the interface, use `qdbus` or `qdbusviewer`, and to call stuff from the commandline use `qdbus`).

I don't have time to look into how to do this right now, but this example code does what you want (and some more).

Yes that's just what I was investigating. I'll try qdbus when I'm back home. Thanks.
