create thumbnails via kioslave

Wed Nov 18, 2009 7:01 pm
Is it possible to use kioslave from konsole?
I didn't find anything except
"Usage: kioslave <slave-lib> <protocol> <klauncher-socket> <app-socket>"
- and that doesn't really help me.

I would like to create thumbnails of all files in a dir, like konqueror does when you choose preview. It's really fast! I think the kioslave that does it is Previewjob.

Does somebody know how to lauch this?

Thanks
Matti

Try "kioclient" instead. kioslave is designed for more advanced and internal use ( likely for debugging )

You will need to use the Thumbnail slave through kioclient.

Try this:
Code: Select all
kioclient copy thumbnail://<path to image> <location to store thumbnail>

Example:
Code: Select all
kioclient copy thumbnail:///home/ben/Documents/Pictures/Testing.JPG thumb_Testing.JPG

Well, that works - but
- pictures are not rotated
- ten times slower then konqueror's thumbnail creation
- the whole screen is full of copying message windows.

So, right now, the convert command of ImageMagick is still the better choice for me.

The ten times slower is likely related to the message windows. Why they are not rotated is unknown.
