Does anyone know of a way to get Kuickshow working in KDE 4? It is my favorite graphics browser - indeed one of my favorite apps, but is not included with KDE 4 and doesn't seem to have library support.

Thanks once again, google01103! I got the 9.1 rpm version working after hunting down some libs to satisfy dependencies.

There are build instructions on http://userbase.kde.org/Kuickshow. The problem is that Kuickshow depends on a very old library, and the new version of the library doesn't work with it. The developer still works on it when he has time, but the problem is that he can get it working with some video cards and not with others. If you have a radeon card it should work. Some others will, some won't. Probably the most useful thing you can do is to report back (check the About panel) which cards do or don't work.

In OpenSuse, as I see you're using, it may be safer to use the one included in the repos...it is in the 11.2 community repos for 4.3.4 and 4.4 at least.

In which repos? I gave up looking. The rpm google01103 pointed to works fine, but I wouldn't mind repo support. |

If you're using KDE 4.3.4, try: http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.2/ If you don't use 4.3.4 yet, you may need to add: http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.2/ as well. Edited to add: if you haven't upgraded to 4.3.4, adding the second repo will trigger an upgrade. All available KDE repos can be found here: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories

Compiles and runs fine in openSUSE 12.1 following these instructions.

there's is a functionally equivalent alternative called ShowImage http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Sh ... ent=143977, not quite as powerful (missing gamma, brightness and contrast adjustment as well right click access to the delete and print command) but it is current and doesn't require imlib1 (which is no longer packaged in most distros). There are rpms for 11.4 but not 12.1

Showimage is nice and fast as was Kuickshow but it is not possible to make as default viewer or I don't know how.

to make showimage the default image viewer for a particular type of image file do the following for jpg, png, etc....:
in Dolphin right click a jpg -> open with -> other -> showimage -> click remember application for this type of file -> ok Or systemsettings -> file associations -> jpg -> move showimage to top of app list |
