24 bit 96 (192) kHz !!!!

Tue Feb 16, 2010 2:28 pm
Hallo friends,

How do you think-Is not it time to have option for custom sampling rate in KDE4 like in KDE 3 ? For example the sound cards with 24 bit 96 (192) kHz sampling rate is something usually common!!! I edit in KDE3 /home/user/.kde/share/config/kcmartsrc
[Arts]
AddOptions=
Arguments=\s-F 10 -S 4096 -r 192000 -s 1 -m artsmessage -c drkonqi -l 3 -f
AudioIO=
AutoSuspend=true
Bits=24
DeviceName=
FullDuplex=false
Latency=250
NetworkTransparent=false
SamplingRate=192000
StartRealtime=true
StartServer=true
SuspendTime=1

and my Creative X-Fi sound card working fine, and the sound is great, but i cant do this in KDE4. I will be happy to have in KDE4 this option!!! Thank you very much and be strong !

yours Radoslav

KDE 4 uses Phonon for audio playback, which in turn uses either Xine or GStreamer usually.

I would recommend:
1) configuring ALSA to resample dynamically
2) configure Xine / GStreamer to output the desired sample rate.

bcooksley,

Thank you very much for your attention.I really do not know how to configuring ALSA to resample dynamically. Pleasе give me guide about this. I prefer VLC for everything.VLC give considerably better sound quality from Xine or Amarok(even with Helix engine). I make settings of 192 kHz easy in VLC, and suppose that no need configure Xine / GStreamer to output the desired sample rate.

thanks a lot !!!

ALSA should resample everything dynamically if it does not fit what the sound card is compatible with. If normal playback does not work without forcing a rate then there is a bug in ALSA as it should perform software resampling on the fly.

I compare KDE 3.5.10 with settings of 192 kHz, and KDE 4.2 and heard that the sound in KDE 4.2 is like KDE 3.5.10 with settings of 16 bit 44 kHz :o
