Console beep does not work in KDE 4.4.3

Hi,

First of all, I wasn't sure if this was the best place or not ("Appearance & System Customisation" also seemed sensible), so I apologise in advance if it's not.

I am running KDE 4.4.3 under Slackware 13.1, with X.org 1.7.7 and have an onboard audio device (though I'm not entirely sure that's relevant for this). lspci says:

00:05.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2)

The problem that I have is simply that there is no sound from the console beep in, for example, an xterm (or Konsole). I do have the pcspkr module loaded and as such I can hear a beep when I'm outside of X. I have tried ticking System Settings > Notifications > Use system bell instead of system notification, but this does not help.

FWIW, I have Slackware 13.0 and KDE 4.2.4 on this machine as well and the beep works in KDE there (with "Use system bell instead of system notification" not ticked).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

This sounds like a regression, please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org.
