Hello,
I've posted some questions in another thread, but I need some simple answers about the Phonon sound system I have shipped with my distro, which is Gentoo/Sabayon. I assume I have the drivers to use a 5.1 dolby speaker system and I also have a HDMI 5.1 capable sound card. I think Phonon is somehow connected to Pulseaudio, can someone please confirm? I cannot find anything that needs to be setup in Phonon. Here i found how to setup/fix a 5.1 sound system in Pulseaudio: http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~bondhugu ... ulse.shtml Is there anything else I would need to have a working 5.1 system using Phonon? Thanks in advance. Richard

If you are using KDE 4.5, then Phonon will use Pulseaudio if it is available. However, it is the responsibility of the underlying backend ( Xine, GStreamer or VLC ) to output to Pulseaudio. This is set on the Backends tab of the Multimedia > Phonon control module ( accessible by running kcmshell4 phonon )
You should also see a "speaker setup" tab which may help.

Thanks, so I see Xine, but I cannot see any "speaker setup". Here's what I see: http://news.webshots.com/photo/27690242 ... 7743IPIeaf |

Ah, my mistake, that tab was added in KDE 4.6.
