i got a bit of a sound problem.my day to day user stoped getting
sound

(The audio playback device creative......... front/waveln
does not work)
falling back to rear.


my root have it but not my user

what is in systemsettings -> hardware -> multimedia -> phonon -> backend ?

Is this different then what is set for root? If possible try different backends (there are available vlc, gstreamer and xine phonon-backends)

just xine.the same for root.the roots front,wave in and note..sound works.
not the users.

2 suggestions

1) in ~/.kde/share/config (or ~/.kde4/share/config) rename/remove phonondevicesrc

2) install and try one of the other phonon backends

did you recently do an upgrade to 4.6 perhaps?

if you create a new user does sound work for him/her?

yes i have done a big update but not from 4.5 to 4.6.(i have bin using 4.6 since beta one)
it was my kernel(had just change name) from creative x-fi 20k to creative x-fi nothing more.

for my user i had to:

systemsettings -> hardware -> multimedia -> phonon -> backend

and mark (show advanced devices)

and the new name showed up

for my root it came by default
