Hello all,
I've just plugged my LCD TV as a second monitor using a HDMI cable. Video is working properly but I am having some audio issues. I had no success changing audio output priority to "HDMI Output" in "systemsettings->multimedia". No matter the output I set, audio always plays on desktop speakers. I could solve this by creating a .asoundrc file at my home directory but I guess this is not the best solution for this issue. Anybody can help with this? PS. For your information, I am using phonon with vlc backend. |

Are you using Pulseaudio? If you aren't, then only Phonon applications will obey the preferences specified in System Settings > Multimedia. VLC itself is not a Phonon application, although the VLC backend used by Phonon applications should support the specified device.

In fact I am not using Pulseaudio, Xine or GStreamer here, I am only using VLC backend as this is the stadard backend for my distribution by now.
This is the scenario: I can manually set hdmi audio output only on applications that have their own audio output preferences like VLC or Mplayer. On kde, nothing happens when I set highest priority for hdmi audio output on systemsettings->multimedia. Systems sounds are always played on desktop speakers. So, do you recommend using a different backend? |

Testing another backend would certainly be recommended, at least to ensure that it isn't a bug in Phonon itself.
