Hi, Amarok 2.4.1, KDE 4.6.3, Arch Linux x64. Amarok recognizes audio CDs, they show up in the collection manager, but the tracks won't play. Any ideas?

What phonon-backend are you using? Settings > Configure Amarok > Playback > Configure Phonon: Backend tab. Please ensure that you are using Gstreamer or VLC, as Xine is deprecated.

I'm using gstreamer. VLC plays CDs OK. KSCD won't work either, it picks the wrong CD player of the two I have, both IDE drives. It wants to pick the second drive and I see no way to change its mind.

I'm having success playing CDs in development Amarok.
Your post is a bit unclear -- are you using phonon-gstreamer and having difficulty? How about Phonon-vlc ? Both of those are available as packages, and are different than the standalone applications Gstreamer and VLC. That said, if you are having a KDE problem with CD player selection, we can't really help you here on the Amarok forum. |

I stated in the post immediately above yours that I am using phonon-gstreamer. I don't see what's unclear about that. I have tried vlc with no change. The problem seems to be with KDE 4.6 and Amarok 2.4. Older versions, for instance in Mandriva 2010, work fine. It's not a deal breaker. If there is anything else that is unclear please let me know.

Heh, I should have read up, sorry. I suggest filing a bug against KDCD, since your problem needs to be fixed at the device-finder level.

No problem, I appreciate you taking the time to try to help. If you think of anything clever, or even not so much, please post.

Well, you might run KDCD --debug in the console, and try again, and then file the bug from the Help menu there. Paste in your debug output to help out the developers, and do the tests they may suggest.
Bugs with information are very helpful! |

OK, will do. The problem with Amarok is odd. The tracks on the CD show up in the play list on the left, but they won't play. I've got all the gstreamer plugins installed, good, bad, ugly, ffmpeg, etc. so I don't think that's it. I can play CDs with VLC, but would just rather have one player for everything. Thanks again for the ideas.

I just tested CD playing in Amarok freshly built from git. CD playing works as expected with phonon-gstreamer (also freshly built), however it fails with phonon-vlc.
So we'll have at least partial success with the next release. |

Update: I installed phonon-vlc and now CDs play in Amarok.
