as per title I'm looking to an alternative to Miro media player (I'd like to have a all-in-one solution for all my media files).
Although it should be based on VLC, it has many more features (podcast ,internet radio..) and strangely enough it plays my audio-files much better than VLC or other players like songbird.

I use Kaffeine which, as long as you have all the right codecs installed, appears to handle pretty well everything if you just want a player.

IIRC, Kaffeine requires the Xine backend, which has been deprecated. Have you verified whether yours is working with either the Phonon or VLC backend?
