Ok, it turns out that the Kaffeine problem is distinct from the Phonon problem. Don't you love it when two unrelated problems appear simultaneously?
The solution to the kaffeine problem is to edit the ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/xine-config file You need to need to change this:

Code: Select all
# audio driver
# { auto  pulseaudio  sndio  alsa  oss  jack  none  file }, default: 0
# audio.driver:auto

into this by modifying the last line above.
Code: Select all
# audio driver
# { auto  pulseaudio  sndio  alsa  oss  jack  none  file }, default: 0
audio.driver:alsa

I found the solution here: http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=131827: My German was just good enough.
This fixes the Kaffeine problem.
Please note that the Dragon/Phonon problem remains as described before. Audio but no video.
Thanks,
jdk

In the system settings, if I reconfigure Phonon to use the xine backend instead of gstreamer, then Dragon Player works normally. I thought xine was dead??

Yes, it is, please use the vlc backend instead.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Yes, that's what I've done. All has returned to normal. Thanks for the advice.
