KDE Development Platform: 4.8.00 (4.8.0
kde4-config: 1.0

07:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 520] (rev a1)

After I got myself a new video card I had to switch from nouveau to nvidia (295.20-1, got the utils installed as well). Since then I do not see my monitor (on DVI) and my beamer (on VGA) any more in systemsettings.

I've tried removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf generated by nvidia to get the old functionality back but no can do.

ATM I'm stuck with the nvidia driver GUI thing EDITand I have to restart X to switch from monitor to beamer.../EDIT

I've run out of ideas as to what else I could try to get systemsettings to play along nicely. Any ideas out there?

Many thanks in advance.

This is probably because the NVidia driver does not play nice in general... it does not support XRandR from what I recall - which is probably why System Settings does not see the output devices.

Does "xrandr" show the outputs?

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Alas, nope - it only sees the monitor:

Code: Select all
toad@deskarch 975\2 ~ > xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1920x1080      50.0     83.0*
   1680x1050      51.0
   1440x900       52.0     53.0
   1400x1050      54.0     55.0
   1280x1024      56.0     57.0
   1280x960       58.0
   1280x800       59.0
   1280x720       60.0
   1152x864       61.0
   1152x720       62.0
   1024x768       63.0     64.0     65.0
   832x624        66.0
   800x600        67.0     68.0     69.0     70.0
   700x525        71.0     72.0
   640x480        73.0     74.0     75.0     76.0     77.0
   512x384        78.0     79.0
   400x300        80.0
   320x240        81.0     82.0

But I can now switch between monitor and beamer using the nvidia-settings GUI - still better than having to restart X. Suppose I can mark this as solved.
