Hello, guys I recently started studying math and so I found myself to in the position that I need to write mathematical symbols on the computer ( or at least I would really really like to). But I cannot find any good option to write more symbols than just parenthesis etc.

Where do you want to write such symbols? When I need to enter an equation, I usually use LaTeX.

Kile seems to be the most sensible option. I just think it's odd, that there are unicodes for symbols like greek letters, mathematical symbols, etc. but I found none but one (Neo keyboard layout - german website which uses them. Essentialy there is potential wasted

Yes, neo has a very nice set of greek and mathematical symbols. However I got used to just typing them like \alpha, \beta etc. in LaTeX. That way you'll have the least problems with encodings and stuff too.

-> If you really want to input greek chars, use the KDE keyboard layout switcher (with a shortcut to toggle) and switch to greek for typing them, or learn NEO. Or configure your own layout with xmodmap.
I'd recommend however to just get used to the LaTeX input method, it'll probably be the least hassle.

I always use Neo and type greek characters etc. directly in LaTeX, it works very well.
