new install of kbuntu 18.04.1. when trying to print from kate, kwrite, or lowriter, it takes almost a minute for the print dialog to appear. once it does, printing works as it should. however, kwrite/kate don't retain their last settings (paper size, margins) as they should. command line printing with lpr works as it should without delay.

i've made the same changes that were needed with 16.04. created /etc/init/cups-browsed.override with manual and disabled avahi-daemon. those did not seem to have any effect.

so i've missed something and have not been able to find a solution. any suggestions?
