hello,
I dented (send a message via identi.ca) about this and some good people from Identi.ca told me to write on the forum. So do I. The thing is: 1. I create a new text file without an extension 2. Open it with Kwrite 3. KWrite opens it 4. Put some text in Polish and save the file 5. The next time the preview on right sidebar shows that the text contains binary data (icon) or it is an unknown type of the file So every time I have to point the proper application (KWrite). The people told me that this have not happened to them. I also know that GNOME support opening text files without the extension. So where is the problem? Are there some missing dependency in Gentoo? I use Dolphin of course. hope you will help me ![]() thanks in advance ![]() |

Can you verify the File Association "text/plain" exists and has KWrite associated to it?
You can access File Associations through System Settings > Advanced
KDE Sysadmin

first, thanks for a reply
![]() Yes, an entry for plain/text exists and KWrite is associated to it. I even added new option "*." but it didn't help. ![]() Take a look at this: http://wstaw.org/images/free/2009/05/17 ... 84e7e4.png You can see there list of my files. The names are in English but content is in Polish. All are plain/text without an extension. Dolphin recognise them as unknown type (nieznany typ in screen). What strange, further below there is a list of the same text/plain files and Dolphin recognise them as plain text document. hope this might help cheers, Wojtek ![]() |

Do the unaffected files have anything such as encoding, etc. that differentiates this from the ones that are affected?

I use UTF-8 encoding on both unaffected and affected files. I can't find any traits which differentiate these files. Both are written in Polish + English words sometimes.
If you like I can attach similar files: one affected and one unaffected. cheers, Wojtek ![]() |

I have recieved the files and confirmed that KDE does not identify the files correctly.
Interestingly, KDE identifies "Commit_Digest_22nd_Feburary" as text/plain not text/x-java. Please file a bug report aganist KDE Libs, with the files you sent me attached.
