Hi,
I'm having trouble adding an Akonadi iCalendar resource to Korganizer. I have made a screenshot to illustrate the issue: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1796/korganizersnapshot.jpg (too large for image tag) The resource seems properly configured but it does not show up in the list and I can't seem to find any way to add or select it. How is this done properly? |

It should be a matter of clicking Modify and checking the address, then clicking Add. OTOH, bear in mind that the developers have said that only KAddressBook is ported to Akonadi at this point. Seeing the possibility, as you did, I tried adding it, but it gave me problems, freezing kontact completely, so I removed the aakonadi resource, checked that my old 'remote' resource was correctly set up, and was back in business.

The address is correct. Note how it shows a green light next to "ready" label. Sounds promising.
The "Add..." button is for creating a new Akonadi resource. It won't add the existing resource to Korganizer. I still haven't found a way to do so. So you recommend not using Akonadi but to add the iCalendar file directly to the Calendar resources in Korganizer? I will try that, thanks. What are the benefits of using Akonadi anyway (at this point in time)? |

The Add button just makes it available, I think. You have to specifically add the resource to KOrganizer. I did try that. I have to un-checked, though, as it was causing me problems. If you want to try it as an experiment, that's fine, but for safety, if you do that make sure that you also add any new entries to the existing organizer, at least until you are absolutely sure that it's working correctly (and that you have the backup organized as UserBase recommends in http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi_and_AddressBook

You must use the akonaditray program. This will make a blue globe show up at the systray area, then right click and Configure. On the configuration screen you can add new resources to Akonadi there. |

I know that and I have already added the resource. It also says "ready". It just won't show up in Korganizer.
How do you do that? I found the userbase article you mentioned rather confusing. It says the "vCard resource" should not be used "as it doesn't share the benefit of Akonadi", without pointing out, in any way, what "benefit" it is talking about or in which way the vCard resource is lacking. I want to use the vCard resource because I want to store all my contacts in a single file and I want to decide where to put that file. |

Hi!
I could reproduce your issue. Couldn't add any resource that wasn't properly configured. In fact there is no way as shown in your screenshot to add the resource. So in my case what I've done was on the Akonadi configuration console I added a new resource pointing to a file named corestorage.ics. This is a valid file with valid ics data. As soon I did dis it did appear at the akonadi resources list, but not on Korganizer. What I did was on Korganizer, select the akonadi resources folder, right click and reload. It appear immediately. So what might be happening is that the resource that you try to add, despite of having the green icon is invalid? Does the resource kalendar.ics resource properly configured pointing to a valid file? Install the akonadiconsole, and try to browse your data source to see if it's valid. |

The developers have said absolutely clearly that as far as releases are concerned, only kaddressbook is ported to akonadi. Any experiments you make with the parts you can see, that are not yet fully developed, are your own responsibility. I did try adding an akonadi calendar, but it caused freezes. I removed it. I wouldn't recommend doing this at the moment.
The developers' decision that the other modules of kdepim were not yet ready for release was not taken lightly.

Yes, I know that, but so far I've only used the available Kubuntu packages that are available on the official repositories, so I suppose that they are stable enough for almost normal use. Also the only component that I'm using Akonadi for is the Google Calendar/Contacts. Everything else is OOTB. The Google Calendar Akonadi plugin works so far without any issue. The Google Contact Akonadi plugin does show some instability, but I'm not quite sure if it's the plugin OR the Kmail/Kontact part. EDIT: By the way, meaning that's available doesn't mean that's stable.... In my case the Google Calendar Plasma Widget just makes my desktop crash every single time.... |
