KJots is a note taking application... part of kdepim which is a really, really, really lightweight application for 'text processing'. And it can be a good base for:

  • Simple Opendocument editor
  • Rich text Editor similar to Wordpad (run 'wine wordpad' in linux with wine installed)
  • HTML editor
  • WYSIWYG editor

Some Really Nifty Features of Kjots:
  • Saved the page/document every minute (configurable)
  • books/documents created stays on the left side for quick access
  • saves/exports to HTML/txt file the whole book or single page

KJots Currently has these features as a very good editor:
  • Clean interface
  • Nice font rendering (like all Qt/KDE applications except koffice2)
  • All basic formatting available for writing a letter, a document, an html page but with no pictures, and styles,
  • basic formatting is there: Bold, Italics, Underline,Strikout, Text Color, Text background color, Text alignment - left, center, right, justify

There are a few missing features in kjots (as it was not desiged to be a word processor, document editor) which can make it almost a real nice simple open document editor

Features it should get:
  • undo/redo
  • Styles (heading1, heading2, etc.)
  • Paragraph formatting
  • Ruler, Tabs
  • insert menu (pictures)
  • save as odt
  • open file/document
  • and some extra stuff like tables ... kword technologies
  • autocorrect, autocomplete, etc.

We can have 'kword 1.x' into this application... and still continue with koffice 2... till Qt fixes the rendering issue perhaps in Qt10 or Qt11 maybe.

Installing Getting it:

Archlinux: sudo pacman -S kdepim-kjots
(k)Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install kdepim

offtopic:
some of you might be wanting to know the 'style' I'm using in 1st and 2nd screenshot; it's qtcurve groovy with oxidize plasma theme...

That's a nice write-up.

Would you mind adding the relevant parts to the userbase page?

Thanks,

Steve.
