i use kate to program my little stuff and before i loved it because when i opened a file and then with a script i modified it i was able to refresh the file (right button option) now i am on kde 4.4.2 actually i can't but i guess i have seen on kde 4.5.1
this is very annoying because i have to close the file and re-open it has been fixed this thing or it still present? how to test : open a file kate /tmp/test.list then open a konsole type echo hello prrrrrrr >/tmp/test.list now kate should get a red X on the /tmp/test.list so click right button is there something to refresh the file?

This still works for me in 4.5.2/4.5.3. For me kate actually pops up a dialog saying the file has changed and asking me if I want to reload it, but that is due to a setting (warn about files modified by a foreign process).

For me it is under Settings->Configure Kate-> Application->General->Behavior
If not, check if you have a package called FAM installed. This appears to be what provides the file change detection in KDE. If not, it is possible that there is another program like this you are missing, or that your version of KDE was built without support for this.
