I've been going through the userbase articles on Akonadi/Kontact etc.
In Kontact I have one address book called 'Personal Contacts' which is the standard Akonadi resource. When I looked at my Akondai Configuration there were 2 address book resources, 'Personal Contacts' as mentioned above and 'resource'. The latter points at std.vcf and is not recommended in the userbase articles (here) so after checking everything was correct I removed 'resource' in Akonadi Configuration. It all makes sense and my address book is up-to-date and working. However another article on the userbase (here) also refers to KDE Resources under System Settings. When I look here the only Contacts resource is 'resource' and it is showing as the standard resource, there is no mention of the 'Personal Contacts' resource. I thought I had removed 'resource' in Akonadi Configuration! Can I safely remove it from here and add my Akonadi 'Personal Contacts' resource? If I do add 'Personal Contacts' should I select the option boxes for 'Contacts' and 'Distribution Groups'? Should I click on the 'Synchronise Folder button? It's not entirely clear from the articles and is a little confusing. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks Nick

Checking my system I can see both the Personal Contacts and the (unused but stand-by) std.vcf resource, so something has gone wrong on your system. I would agree that you should try adding the Personal Contact to your resources in SystemSettings, pointing it to ~/.local/share/contacts. I'd select Contacts and Distribution Groups. I haven't a clue what is going to sync with what, but I don't think you can do much harm by selecting that too. OTOH, I'm no expert. If you feel safer that way, just omit that. Good luck.

Ok, well it's done, I've added Personal Contacts as my standard KDE contacts resource under System Settings. Everything still works, which is nice.
Like you I haven't got a clue what the effect is (or importance), if any, of making these changes. Thanks for your support!

It does seem extremely odd that the addressbook was working, yet system settings akonadi section didn't know about it. I've not come across this before.
If anyone does know the implication of that sync choice, it would be useful to add it here ![]()

Yes, and I don't think I've done much with these settings before which implies all this has come about through standard upgrades and any migration wizards which might have run during the process.

After adding Personal Contacts as a KDE resource in System Settings my contact e-mail addresses are available when I compose an e-mail, which is good, that was going to be my next question.
It does seem a bit convoluted, you'd think this sort of thing would be controlled from within Kontact instead of somewhere else.
